How AES works
Every scheme starts the same way: understand what the client is actually trying to build, then test the alternatives early — while change is still cost-effective.
AES assesses options quickly and refines the design toward the solution that carries the least risk for the least money, in full collaboration with the architect, the contractor and the rest of the team. Proposals are accurate, coordinated with the other disciplines, and always pointed at the project objective rather than the drawing board.
That approach scales in both directions — the same rigour applies to a domestic extension as to a £475M nuclear facility. Value engineering, buildability and cost certainty are not add-ons at AES; they are how the engineering is done.
FEED & pre-construction planning
Front-End Engineering Design is where modern projects are won. AES front-loads the engineering — options tested, interfaces fixed, risks priced — so the scheme that goes to site is the one that was proven in the model.
- FEED studies and pre-construction engineering planning
- Optioneering with live, code-compliant bills of quantities
- Interface and constraint resolution before contract award
- De-risked handover from concept into EPC delivery
Structural design & analysis
Steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber, designed to the Eurocodes and British Standards with modern analysis behind every member.
- Full calculation packages, drawings and specifications for Building Control approval
- Steelwork and connection design, large-span and heavy-civils structures
- New build, extension, alteration and change-of-use schemes
- Analysis and modelling in current structural software, coordinated through Revit
Civil & infrastructure design
The works beyond the building line — designed so the site drains, the levels work and the roads get adopted.
- Road, access and external-works design
- Drainage strategy, SuDS and flood-risk assessment
- Earthworks, levels and cut-and-fill balance
- Utilities coordination and adoption submissions
Surveys, appraisals & remediation
Existing structures inspected, understood and — where they need it — put right.
- Structural condition surveys and appraisals of existing buildings
- Subsidence and movement investigation, crack monitoring and diagnosis
- Remediation and strengthening design, with clear reports you can act on
- Historic and listed structures — sympathetic investigation and repair
Foundations, piling & geotechnics
From desk study to driven pile — the ground treated as the first structural element, not an afterthought.
- Preliminary desk studies and site-investigation scoping
- Trial pit and borehole evaluation alongside geotechnical engineers
- Shallow, raft and piled foundation design — proven to 50-metre marine piles
- Marine and coastal works to BS 6349
Temporary works & construction engineering
The scheme is only as good as its sequence. AES designs the how alongside the what.
- Temporary works, propping and façade-retention design
- Construction sequencing and methodology, proven in 4D BIM
- Buildability and DfMA reviews — off-site where it pays, in-situ where it doesn't
- Lifting, transport and erection engineering interfaces
Contracts, tender & delivery
Engineering that survives contact with the commercial world — administered, monitored and closed out properly.
- Tender documentation, reporting and procurement support
- NEC3/4 and PSC contract administration through delivery
- Site monitoring, progress reporting and post-contract supervision
- CAPEX control and value engineering at programme scale
