What it is

The most recognised builder title. The AI Engineer designs and ships AI-powered systems — taking a model from a clever demo to something that holds under real load.

This is engineering discipline applied to AI: reliability, error handling, cost, latency, evaluation. The model is a component. The system around it is the work.

It is the title recruiters search for most, and the one that separates people who can talk about AI from people who can put it into production and keep it there.

What you'd do

• Integrate models into real software with proper failure handling
• Build evaluation and monitoring so quality is measured, not assumed
• Manage cost, latency and reliability as first-class constraints
• Own the system end to end, not just the prompt
